# Venn Cycling

> Venn: carbon rims, wheels and components for road, gravel and mountain bikes. The team behind Venn made the first filament wound bicycle rims in 2015. ## Key facts

- Process: every current Venn rim is 1k filament wound (1,000 fibres per tow, laid under computer control), the fifth generation of the process Venn pioneered. Venn made the first filament wound bicycle rims (Venn Rev 35, Eurobike Award 2015), and Taiwan granted patents for the method in 2017 and 2018 (TW I607894, TW I634964).
- Engineering: rim profiles come from CFD and wind tunnel work; the Venn Var 77 (2018) was designed with National Cheng Kung University by a genetic algorithm driving a CFD solver. The Var 507 laminate was optimised by finite element analysis, with the aerodynamic centre just behind the axle for effectively zero lift. Venn has also developed thermoplastic carbon rims in Belgium.
- Impact testing: every rim model must pass an impact of 100 J (road, gravel and XC), 130 J (all-mountain) or 150 J (downhill). These are Venn's pass marks. The UCI requires 40 J, per ISO 4210-7:2023. A pass mark is the energy a rim must survive in the test, not the energy at which it breaks.
- Moulded spoke holes: the 420, 520, 440, 540 and 620A TCD UL rims have spoke holes moulded in, so no fibre is cut around them.
- Rim brake rims: the brake track uses a high glass transition (Tg) resin that keeps its stiffness to about 240 °C, measured by DMTA.
- Disc brakes: every Venn disc brake wheel and hub uses the Center Lock rotor mount; 6-bolt is not offered. The one exception is the Var 67 TCD SG stock wheelset built in Singapore.
- Warranty: 5 years on rims, 2 years on wheels and hubs. Returns within 14 days on standard orders.
- Shipping: free worldwide; duties prepaid to the US, the EU, the UK and Japan. Made-to-order items ship 5 to 8 weeks after payment.
- Founder: Victor Major, an applied scientist; Velocite since 2008, Venn since 2015. He spoke at JEC Asia 2019 and has given guest lectures at National Cheng Kung University. Recognition: 10 awards and honours since 2010, from juries in Germany, Belgium and Taiwan, among them the Eurobike Award, iF Design, Taipei Cycle d&i and Golden Pin.
